Things to Do in Gatlinburg
You’ll enjoy many things to do and sights to see while on your Gatlinburg getaway. We like to provide suggestions as well as expanded information for guests on the many fun and exciting things to do during their stay. If you’re at a loss for things to do, make sure to add some of these stops to your list.
There is plenty of four-seasons fun in Gatlinburg. Visit Gatlinburg Skylift Park, challenge yourself with a ropes course or escape room, or take your adventures off-road with a mountain jeep tour, or a hike through the great outdoors of the Smoky Mountains region.
Great Smoky Mountains National Park
The Great Smoky Mountains are a sight to see from any vantage point. Go to the park and you’ll be able to enjoy the mountains, hike, and more. Enjoy “destination” hikes like Chimney Tops and Rainbow Falls or ask park staff about kid-friendly hikes. Keep an eye out for black bears and other wildlife like coyotes, turkeys, and white-tailed deer, and admire the over 1,500 kinds of flowering plants throughout the park. Explore Cades Cove for spectacular wildlife viewing and hiking.
Gatlinburg Skylift Park
The Galinburg SkyLift has been a major feature of the town since 1954. Look up and see the iconic yellow chairs soaring above the beautiful landscape. Starting in 2019, a new attraction is drawing people to the atmosphere above Gatlinburg at Skylift Park. The SkyBridge is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in North America. Coupled with glass floor panels running through the middle of the bridge, it’s a thrill to cross or stand and look out at the majestic Smoky Mountains.
Museum of Salt & Pepper Shakers
Most people know of the basic salt and pepper shakers used in restaurants or reminisce about the vintage shakers their grandmother used to have. For a more whimsical outing on your visit to Gatlinburg, check out the Museum of Salt & Pepper Shakers. Find fun themes like Disney themes, baby & stork, and sushi.
Dollywood
Prepare for fun with generous splashes of the entertainer’s personality throughout. The park includes over 50 rides, many of which are roller coasters. Ride the Dollywood Express on a tour of the park in a 100-ton coal-fired steam engine, and enjoy top notch dining and shopping, all with a Dolly Parton flair. Come back another day and splash around in the water park, Dollywood’s Splash Country.
Hiking
Lace up your hiking boots, grab a bottle of water, and head out. Much of Gatlinburg’s greatest hiking is in Great Smokey Mountains National Park, with top hikes like Rainbow Falls Trail, Grotto Falls Trail, and Laurel Falls Trail. From hard to easy, there’s a hike suitable for everyone. There are also great hiking spots outside of the park and around Douglas Lake. Some trails may be closed, so make sure you have alternatives in mind.
